Both Kohli and Maxwell had great individual campaigns at the 2023 Cricket World Cup in India. The Indian batting maestro smashed the record for most centuries in the ODI format after reaching the landmark of fifty ODI tons. He achieved this in front of a packed stadium at Wankhede in India’s semi-final against New Zealand. Kohli also broke the record for most runs scored in a single edition with his tally of 765 in the 11 games he has played. He also surpassed Ricky Ponting to become the second-highest scorer in World Cup history behind Sachin Tendulkar.
Meanwhile, Maxwell, the Aussie all-rounder smashed the record for the fastest World Cup century at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi. While facing a returning Netherlands side in the tournament, Maxwell knocked 100 runs in only 40 balls. He also produced one of the best individual performances in ODI cricket history against Afghanistan at the Wankhede Stadium. Maxwell scored 201 runs in 128 balls to rescue a nearly-lost game for his side. Despite their amazing performances, only one player could ultimately bring the trophy home.
Australia proved to be the better team against India, beating them by six wickets in the final at the Narendra Modi Stadium. Travis Head won the player of the match for his game-winning century.
