Flamboyant wicketkeeper batter KL Rahul received the best fielder medal for India for his fine work behind the stumps against arch-rivals Pakistan in the ODI World Cup match on Saturday. Rahul, who recently made a return to the Indian team after a long injury lay-off, was sharp with the glovework in the big-ticket clash and also took a fine catch of Imam-ul-Haq.

Team India fielding coach T Dilip has started a new tradition in the camp with the ongoing World Cup. After every match, Dilip points out the players who did well on the field and hands over the best fielder medal to a player.

Virat Kohli received the medal for his stunning catch of Mitchell Marsh against Australia, while Shardul Thakur got one for his efforts versus Afghanistan.

Meanwhile, while announcing the winner from the Pakistan clash, Dilip pointed out the efforts of Kuldeep Yadav, Mohammed Siraj and Ravindra Jadeja and then played a video on television to declare the best fielder.

“One skill generally which really gets ignored, I think is wicketkeeping. We expect to do the job, but some of the things we spoke about coming to the wicket, coming to the stumps to collect that throws. Doing the leg side stump and catches. I think overall KL was fantastic. Well done,” Dilip said.

Meanwhile, skipper Rohit Sharma’s 86 and an inspired bowling display helped India hammer Pakistan by seven wickets in their high-profile World Cup clash at the 132,000-capacity Ahmedabad stadium on Saturday.
