DIWALI 2023: While the celebrations for Durga Puja or Navratri might have been over, festivities continue to remain in full swing as the country gears up for Diwali. One of the biggest and most celebrated festivals in India, Diwali falls today on November 12 and the excitement is felt days before the main day. As the festival spans over five days, each one has its own uniqueness and significance. On this special day, people wake up early, take a bath, deck up in new clothes, clean their homes, buy gifts and most importantly take part in Diwali or Lakshmi puja in the evening.
Diwali is the time when devotees worship Maa Lakshmi, the Goddess of Wealth and Prosperity. As it is an important ritual, the Diwali puja should be performed at the most appropriate muhurat and with all the necessary items that are required. The shubh muhurat for Lakshmi Puja today is from 5:40 PM to 7:36 PM. Devotees need to arrange the items or puja samagri to perform the Lakshmi Puja or Diwali Puja. Given here is the list of items that one should necessarily have:
Diwali 2023 Puja Samagri List
- Idols/images of Goddess Lakshmi and Lord Ganesha must be kept in place to worship during the puja.
- A stool or chowki is important to place the idols during the puja.
- A fresh red or yellow cloth for the seating of the chowki.
- Kumkum, Chandan, Chawal, Haldi, Moli, and Roli are among the few items that are needed during the puja.
- Paan, supari, and sweets are also among a few necessary samara for the puja.
- Coconut, whole wheat grain, and fruits must be arranged in the required amount.
- Agarbatti, Dhoop, Camphor (kapur), and itra (perfume) are also needed during the puja.
- Earthen lamps, ghee, cotton wicks, and aarti thali are important for lighting diyas during the puja.
- Flowers, mango leaves, durva leaves are also required to offer to the deities during the puja.
- Panchamrit and Gangajal are considered auspicious during the Diwali puja.
- Accounts book, dakshina, and most importantly, the bhog or Prasad must necessarily be arranged before the puja.
Diwali 2023 Puja Vidhi
While devotees perform the Diwali Puja by following different rituals, given here is the most commonly followed ritual:
- Check for the auspicious time for Diwali or Lakshmi Puja.
- Decorate the temple with lamps, flowers, and lights and install the idols or photographs of Lord Ganesha and Goddess Lakshmi.
- Begun by worshipping the deities with flowers and akshat.
- Apply tilak, roli, and chandan.
- Offer flowers, garland of flowers to the idols, and bhog to the deities.
- Lit a diya, dhoop, agarbatti, and continue with a traditional aarti.
