Bhopal Metro surges ahead, nearing completion of AIIMS link. Excitement builds for mid-2024 passenger travel. Progress in full swing post-festive break.

In a remarkable stride toward completing a major highlight of the Bhopal metro project, the much-anticipated railway-over-bridge (RoB) that connects to AIIMS Bhopal is taking shape.

Two months post the high-profile priority corridor trial run, the Bhopal metro rail project is steadily advancing, setting the stage for a groundbreaking achievement.

Insiders from the Madhya Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation Limited (MPMRCL) reveal that steel girders and essential support structures are now firmly in place. As the project aims for passenger travel commencement by mid-2024, the automatic fare collection systems and other related infrastructure are also rapidly materializing.

Anticipation builds as sources hint at the RoB girder launch expected within the next four weeks. The elevated section linking to AIIMS Bhopal will follow suit after the metro rail tracks are laid.

An official shared insights into the meticulous planning, explaining the construction of temporary and permanent launching pads. However, the timing of this momentous launch is intricately tied to the schedule of Indian Railways, a key player in connecting north and southbound trains.

The impending connection to AIIMS Bhopal signifies the realization of the original plan for the priority corridor, spanning approximately 6.2 kilometers. This segment is a pivotal part of Line 2 (orange line) of the Bhopal metro, poised to extend over 15 kilometers upon completion, linking Karond to AIIMS Bhopal.

Fresh off a well-deserved festive season break, the MPMRCL workforce is back on track, with Bhopal metro construction in full swing.

Following the successful trial run from Subash Nagar to Rani Kamlapati station in September, the five stations along the route are receiving their finishing touches, signaling the metro’s steady march toward a transformative future.
