The road and highway authority in Tiruchirappalli or Trichy has recovered land worth Rs 20 crore. The space was occupied by the gasoline station near TVS Tollgate at the Trichy-Chennai National Highway’s intersection point.
As per the detail shared by the TOI, the authorities now will use the reclaimed land to remove black spots close to highway, and will establish a high-quality testing center to check various materials used in building roads.
Recovers Land in Trichy
The report says that the fuel station was given a no-objection certificate (NOC) in 1960s, allowing them to operate the fuel station using 15,000 square feet of land on the Pudukottai main road on condition, where the land will be handed over to the authorities within one month if a request for the same will be raised by highway authorities.
Keeping all the conditions in mind, a notice was issued to the fuel station management in May, asking them to vacate the area. Despite all the legal conditions in favour, the department’s building and maintenance section was only able to take ownership of the land on Saturday. This was done after overcoming legal obstacles.
Fatal Accidents on Land
TOI reported that land, which is situated on the Trichy-Chennai NH and Pudukottai main road, has already reported a few fatal accidents and over 18 non-fatal accidents, which took place between September and November. In a move to make the situation better, an official says that the area of retrieved land will be used to standardize a turning at the junction.
Here’s What Official Says
Reacting about the same, an official said, “We will develop a traffic island to ensure a safe approach for vehicles bound for the city from the service roads of Trichy-Chennai NH. The retrieved land has been fenced now. Since inflammable materials were handled at the site, we will slowly launch the road standardization work by following safety procedures, as TOI reported.
