Companies' negotiated rate for hotel rooms this year is likely to go up.

New Delhi: The 'American Express 2008 Asia-Pacific Corporate Hotel Rate Projections and Market Forecast' has forecasted that the corporates may have to tighten their budgeting for the traveling needs of their employees.

The study has projected that companies' negotiated rate for hotel rooms this year is likely to go up in the range of 25-40 per cent in Bangalore, Delhi and Mumbai.

It also highlights the major trends that would impact a corporation's hotel spend in 2008.

One of the key factors is the increasing traveller demands which range from modern technologies and lifestyle options-- from wireless Internet access to health services.

The study also says that demand for hotel rooms will outstrip availability in these cities. The corporates' negotiated rate in the Indian cities is forecast to rise the maximum of 40 per cent in Mumbai, where the projection in increase in the number of rooms is only 30 per cent.

In the National Capital, where supply is projected to go up by 44 per cent, the companies' rate is forecast to surge by 36 per cent. Bangalore, which is the home to IT companies, the number of rooms are predicted to increase by a whopping 225 per cent and the rate is likely to rise by 25.07 per cent.

"When preparing negotiations with hotels, companies must provide as much information as possible to ensure discussions are based on fact," PTI quoted the head of American Express Consulting -- Japan, Asia-Pacific and Australia --Prashant Aggarwal as saying.

"They should consider implementing a corporate card programme to get access to transactional level date which can be overlaid with data from the travel management company, the hotel and the general ledger," he added.
