Sensex ends up shedding 238 pts
The stock markets failed to sustain Friday's rally and plunged by 238 points on across-the-board selling pressure.

Mumbai: The markets closed in red on account of selling pressure in scrips across sectors. The BSE Sensex closed with a loss of 238 points and the NSE Nifty was down by 74.70 points.

The Sensex closed at 10,213.48 down 238 points.

The NSE Nifty closed at 3017 down 75 points.

The BSE Midcap was down 1.7 per cent at 4,790.33 and the SmallCap was down 1.89 per cent at 5,873.41 per cent.

All the BSE sectoral indices closed in the negative terrain.

The metal index lost 3.68 per cent to close at 8,257.14. Hind Zinc, Sterlite Ind, Jindal Saw, Hindalco and Tata Steel closed in red.

The consumer durables index was down 2.95 per cent at 2,940.32. Stocks Titan Industries, BPL, Blue Star and Samtel Color sank.

The oil & gas index was down 2.87 per cent at 4,935.00. Stocks like IOC, Reliance, HPCL, Kochi Refinery and BPCL tumbled.

The FMCG index closed with a loss of 2.67 per cent at 1,844.57. Stocks like Tata Tea, Colgate, Britannia, HLL and ITC plunged.

The IT index was down 2.48 per cent and closed at 3,528.48. Stocks like Satyam, Patni Computer, HCL Tech, I-Flex Solution and Wipro witnessed selling pressure.

The BSE Bankex slipped 2.28 per cent at 4,731.93. PNB, Oriental Bank, HDFC Bank, SBI and ICICI Bank dragged.

The health care index lost 1.76 per cent to close at 3,296.44. Matrix Lab, Ranbaxy Labs, GlaxoSmithKline, Biocon and Apollo Hospital closed lower.

The auto index lost 1.38 per cent and closed at 4,708.08. Stocks like Tube Investment, TVS Motor, Maruti Udyog, Ashok Leyland and MICO tanked.

The capital goods index sank 0.37 per cent to close at 7,171.69.
