Mumbai: The Bombay Stock Exchange benchmark Sensex extended its gains for the fourth day by adding almost 96 points in opening trade on Tuesday amid positive cues from other Asian bourses following overnight gains in the US market.
The 30-share index, which has gained 862 points in the previous three trading sessions, added 95.91 points to 18,508.32 points in the first few minutes of trade.
Similarly, the broad-based National Stock Exchange index Nifty moved up by 21.30 points to 5,557.90.
Brokers said the trading sentiment remained firm on the back of a rising trend in the Asian region following overnight gains in the US market.
In the Asian region, Hong Kong's Hang Seng index rose by 0.66 per cent and Japan's Nikkei by 1.08 per cent in morning trade. In the US, the Dow Jones Industrial Average ended 0.91 per cent higher on Monday.
