Delhi Capitals captain Rishabh Pant was furious at his bowlers after they conceded the second-highest team total in IPL history during their clash with Kolkata Knight Riders in Vizag on Wednesday.
Opener Sunil Narine was in red-hot form as he peppered the boundary with KKR racking up 88/1 in the Powerplay. Narine produced his career-best knock – 85 off 39 – as the two-time champions posted a gigantic 272/7 after opting to bat first.
Barring Sunil Kumar (0/19 from 2 overs), all other DC bowlers recorded an economy of at least 10.8 an over.
“We were just all over the place, we could have done better, and it is one of those days I feel,” said Pant who often cut a sorry figure as KKR batters punished DC bowlers.
Not that DC fared any better with the bat. Their top-four combined for a sorry aggregate of 28 runs including two ducks. That they were able to make 166-all out was thanks to Pant (55 off 25) and Tristan Stubbs (54 off 32) showing some fight in the middle-order.
“As a batting unit, we talked about going hard and that’s how we approach these games because it is better to be all-out trying to go for the total than not chase it down,” Pant said.

There were at least two occasions when DC erred by not reviewing or leaving it too late for a caught-behind decision. The first time the beneficiary was Sunil Narine when he was batting on 24 as Pant made a very late signal for DRS which the umpire didn’t accept as the clock ran out.
Ultra-edge later showed a little spike.
The second time it was KKR captain Shreyas Iyer who got an outside edge while going for a cut when he was on 3. This time, DC didn’t review at all but replays showed there was an edge.
Pant blamed it on the noise at the stadium and an issue with the giant screen at the venue with specifying the problem.
“It was quite loud and couldn’t see the timer on the screen (talking about the non-DRS moments) and there was some issue with the screen as well. There are some things you can control and some you cannot control, you just need to go with the flow,” he said.
DC have now lost three of their four matches and the margin of defeat has also impacted their net run-rate. They have slipped to the ninth spot on the table.
“Time to reflect better as a team, as an individual and come back stronger in the next game,” Pant said.
