In the absence of his opening strike partner, Porel took up the aggressor's role, smacking all the LSG bowlers for boundaries galore as he sent the Delhi crowd in a frenzy.

No Jake Fraser-McGurk? No problem says DC opener Abishek Porel, who took on the LSG bowlers to wreak havoc in Delhi Capitals encounter against the Lucknow Super Giants at Delhi today.

LSG’s Arshad Khan started off on a high, understanding how to manipulate DC’s fiery opener Jake Fraser-McGurk. After a couple of wides, Arshad went on to bowl a bouncer straight to the Aussie, anticipating him to whack it down the ground in classic fashion. And that is exactly what transpired, as the ball fell right into the hands of Navven Ul-Haq in long, who took the catch to dismiss the dangerman.

But, LSG were not out of the hot water yet, for Abishek Porel had much to say.

In the absence of his opening strike partner, Porel took up the aggressor’s role, smacking all the LSG bowlers for boundaries galore as he sent the Delhi crowd in a frenzy.

There was no stopping the Indian youngster, who took apart the likes of Arshad Khan, Mohsin Khan and Naveen Ul-Haq for fours and sixes at will, as him and Shai Hope put up a blitzing fifty partnership in just 25 balls.

But, Porel’s dominance was at full display when in the sixth over, the batter swivelled on a shorter and wider delivery off the Afghan pacer Ul-Haq to pull one over fine leg for a swashbuckling one-handed six.

He’d continue his onslaught without any breaks, and go on to notch his quickfire fifty in just 21 balls in the succeeding over as he helped DC get off to a blistering start.

Ul-Haq would go on to get his revenge on Porel, as the Afghan would tempt the Indian to swing one away with a slower shorter ball in the 12th over, straight into the hands of Nicholas Pooran.
