Last season’s finalists Delhi Capitals Women and Mumbai Indians Women are all set to encounter each other in their second meeting this edition on Tuesday, March 5, at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. These two sides played the curtain-raiser in WPL 2014, which Mumbai Indians won by four wickets, thanks to Sajeevan Sajana’s last-ball heroics. Just as they did in the inaugural Women’s Premier League season in 2023, they are currently leading the table and occupying the top two spots.
Mumbai Indians Women lost captain Harmanpreet Kaur to an injury, which saw them lose their first game of the season in Match No. 6 against UP Warriorz Women. They, however, returned to winning ways in the previous game as the Nat Sciver-Brunt-led side cruised to a seven-wicket win over Royal Challengers Bangalore Women.
Delhi Capitals Women, meanwhile, are on a three-game winning streak since losing to MI-W in the season opener. They are at the top of the WPL 2024 table, tied on points with MI-W but with a superior net run rate. This game could prove to be a real determinant for which team ends up leading the table come the end of the league phase.
