South Africa’s David Miller has had a stellar start to his season in the SA20 captaining the Paarl Royal. The skipper has led the side to two victories consecutively to kick off their campaign on a high note. The skipper himself has been in fine touch with the bat, scoring 75 to help his side secure the victory against the Pretoria Capitals.
The Royals skipper however lauded the Indian fans for their enthusiasm and energy having played in the Indian Premier League for 11 years now. Miller said, “I have been playing over in India for a long time now with the IPL and a lot of series in South Africa. I always just enjoy the enthusiasm, energy and the vibe that the Indian people have for cricket.”
The South African batter has vast experience playing franchise cricket for over a decade, establishing himself as one of the top overseas batters on offer. Currently playing for the Gujarat Titans, he was also part of the Royal’s inaugural season and led the side to a title victory.
Miller also added, “It’s such a huge passion and religion. It’s great to be playing the way we are knowing that the Indian fans are back there supporting us. It’s always a good feeling to know that there’s a lot of support back there in India,” Miller said of his massive Indian fan base.”
In the first fixture against the Pretoria Capitals, Miller top-scored with a quick 41 off 33 deliveries to help his team secure a 27-run win. He came up with another blistering knock in the rematch on Sunday, scoring 75 runs and forming a lethal partnership with Mitchell Van Burren to help the side set a target of 210 and then win by 10 runs.
Asked if he wished to call upon his friends from the IPL, the batter was unable to pick a single player, indicating his love for the community.
“I can’t really single out anyone, but I’ve been fortunate to play for many years, so it’s been really good. Obviously, making really good friendships and relationships over the years. There are millions of cricketers over there, so I’m just really chuffed,” he said.
Miller, an established batter in the International format, will be looking to bring forth his best game as he will look to lead the Paarl Royals and make his contributions for the Gujarat Titans in the IPL. More importantly, he will also be aiming to be in his best form, looking ahead to the T20 World Cup.
