It wasn’t meant to be for Virat Kohli who continues to have a torrid start in the T20 World Cup 2024 as he was dismissed early on in the innings once again. Young pace sensation, Naseem Shah managed to give Pakistan the early wicket after the game was restarted after a rain delay.

His record for having done well against the arch-rival in the T20 showpiece event was one of the key highlights and many expected to see him get back to his best run-scoring form, but Kohli was caught by the fielder at the point region as he looked to play the cut-shot which landed at the toe-end of the bat which found the fielder.
Kohli has had a stellar record against the arch-rivals where he has scored four fifties in the five games he has played against Pakistan in the T20 World Cup.
The Pakistan pace-attack has started the game strongly with that early wicket and India has opted to send out Axar Patel at number four to partner Rishabh Pant in the middle, which is fairly surprising.

Virat Kohli has been utilised at the top of the order along with the Indian skipper Rohit Sharma after his stellar Indian Premier League 2024 showing where he scored a total of 741 runs in the 15 games played to win the orange cap, leading the run-scoring charts.
However, he has not been able to translate that form in the T20I showpiece event as he has been dismissed for 1 and 4 in the 2024 edition of the tournament which is not ideal for the Men in Blue if they are to make a charge for the title.

To put Kohli at the top of the order, the Indian team have benched a specialist opening batter in Yashasvi Jaiswal along with Shubman Gill where the latter remains in the reserves.
India will hope that the remaining batters can help get the team back on track while Pakistan will hope that their bowlers can keep the batting team in check and hope to get their first win in this year’s tournament.
