The 2024 season of the IPL will be played at 12 different venues across the sprawling nation. Here is a look at all the stadiums et to host the T20 tournament.

The 2024 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) is set to commence with a high-voltage clash between reigning champions Chennai Super Kings and Royal Challengers Bangalore scheduled to be played on March 22.

The IPL 2024 season opener will take place at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chepauk in Chennai. Apart from the Chennai ground, eleven more venues will host the matches in the upcoming edition of the IPL.

Punjab Kings have shifted their base this season to the newly built Maharaja Yadavindra Singh Cricket Stadium in Mullanpur, Mohali. The Punjab-based franchise will play their last two home games at the picturesque HPCA Stadium in Dharamsala.

Let us take a look at all the venues that will host the 2024 edition of the IPL:

MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai:

Formerly known as Madras Cricket Club Ground, the Chepauk Stadium has played host to many iconic moments in IPL history. The stadium has a capacity of 38.000 and offers a spin-friendly surface. The venue has hosted 76 IPL matches and the teams batting first have emerged victorious on 46 occasions. The average first-innings score in Chennai is 163.

Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai:

The iconic venue, which hosted the 2011 ODI World Cup final, has recently completed 50 years of its journey. Situated in Mumbai, the Wankhede Stadium can accommodate nearly 32,000 spectators. A total of 111 IPL matches have taken place in Mumbai so far. The highest score at this venue is 235, which was scored by the Royal Challengers Bangalore in 2015.

Eden Gardens, Kolkata:

Eden Gardens, the home ground of two-time IPL champions Kolkata Knight Riders, has hosted 86 matches since the inaugural season of the tournament. The wicket here has assisted the chasing unit as the team batting second has achieved success in 51 games. The highest IPL total in Kolkata is 235 which was registered by the Chennai Super Kings against the home side in the last edition. The Eden Gardens has a capacity of 68,000.

Maharaja Yadavindra Singh Stadium, Mohali:

Punjab Kings will play their home matches of the 2024 IPL at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh Stadium in Mohali. The venue, which is making its debut this season, has a capacity of 33,000. The stadium boasts a herringbone drainage system, which aids in removing rainwater in 25-30 minutes. Instead of traditional soil, sand has been used to prepare the ground in Mullanpur.

ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium, Visakhapatnam:

The Dr. Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium will host its first-ever IPL match this season. Delhi Capitals have decided to play their first two home matches at this venue. Their regular home venue, Ajun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi, hosted the second half of the Women’s Premier League (WPL).

Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad:

It is the world’s largest cricket stadium and has a total capacity of 1,32,000. The final of the last IPL was played in Ahmedabad where CSK beat home team Gujarat Titans to win their fifth title. Since 2022, 27 IPL matches have been played at the Narendra Modi Stadium where the chasing unit has triumphed on 14 occasions.

M Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru:

The home ground of RCB has a history of producing high-scoring clashes. The stadium has a capacity of 40,000 and has hosted a total of 88 IPL matches so far. The highest team total in Bengaluru is 263, which is also the all-time best in the tournament’s history. RCB set the record in 2013 against the now-defunct Pune Warriors.

Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, Hyderabad:

Serving as the home of Sunrisers Hyderabad, this stadium has hosted 71 IPL matches so far. The team batting second has won the majority of the games. The highest IPL total at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium is 231 while the lowest score is 80. The venue has a capacity of 55,000.

Sawai Mansingh Stadium, Jaipur:

The home stadium of Rajasthan Royals can accommodate 30,000 fans in an IPL match. Boasting shorter boundaries, the ground has witnessed many run-fests over the years. Among 52 matches that have been held in Jaipur, 34 were won by the team batting second.

Ekana Sports City, Lucknow:

The venue has been hosting IPL matches since last year, which was the second season for the Lucknow Super Giants. The venue, which has a 50,000 capacity, hosted seven home games of the Lucknow-based franchise. In the first-ever match, the home unit produced 193 runs against Delhi Capitals and it is the highest team score on this ground.

HPCA Stadium, Dharamsala:

Situated in the foothills of the Himalayas, the HPCA stadium first hosted an IPL game back in 2010 as the home ground of Kings XI Punjab (now Punjab Kings). Having a capacity of 21,000, the venue will host two matches of the 2024 IPL.

Arun Jaitley Stadium, New Delhi:

Despite being the designated home turf of Delhi Capitals, the Arun Jaitley Stadium will not host any match in the first half of the 2024 IPL. The second phase of the recently concluded WPL, including the knock-out games, took place in Delhi. The venue has previously hosted 76 IPL matches and has a seating capacity of 35,200.
