Former India cricketer Virender Sehwag named his India’s XI for the T20 World Cup but could not find a place for Mumbai Indians (MI) skipper Hardik Pandya.
Speaking recently on the Club Prairie Fire Podcast, Sehwag revealed his preferred player he would like to see represent India at the T20 World Cup.
“Yashasvi Jaiswal, Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Surya Kumar Yadav, Rishabh Pant, Rinku Singh or Shivam Dubai. Out of those two, one. Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj, Sandeep Sharma, Kuldeep Yadav, Ravindra Jadeja.” Sehwag said promptly when asked about his India playing XI.
When Adam Gilchrist and Michael Vaughan were left amazed by Hardik Pandya’s name not featuring, the former dashing opener said: “He should be in the 15. Yeah, but you ask. Eleven.”
The MI captain has not been having the best of seasons in the Indian Premier League, as a player as well as a leader. He has scored just 151 runs from eight games at an average of 21.57 and a strike rate of 142.45. With the ball, Hardik has conceded 186 runs while taking just four wickets at an average of 46.50 and a strike at 10.94.

The T20 World Cup begins roughly one week after the end of IPL 2024, with the deadline to submit the provisional squad to the International Cricket Council (ICC) is May 1.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India’s (BCCI) Ajit Agarkar-led selection committee is likely to hold a meeting in Delhi to lock in the final 15 who will fly to the West to participate in the showpiece event, starting June 2 Dallas and Guyana.
According to a report, the selectors are scheduled to have a meeting on April 27 or 28 in New Delhi. Mumbai Indians will take on Delhi Capitals next week, on April 27, which means Team India skipper Rohit Sharma will also be in the national capital. Chairman of selectors, Ajit Agarkar, who is currently on a vacation abroad, will fly directly to Delhi to join the meeting with his colleagues.
