'Series Made me Think About...': Captain Rohit Sharma Says Facing England in a Five-Test Series a 'Different Experience'
Rohit Sharma-led India handed England their first Test series since the duo of captain Ben Stokes and coach Brendon McCullum joined forces ushering in the 'Bazball' era.

England began their India tour with a stunning win in Hyderabad, a performance that was continuation of their aggressive approach in Test cricket, popularly known as ‘Bazball’. Considering the manner in which England played, especially as a batting unit, India captain Rohit Sharma had to rework his strategy and in combination with the support staff, masterminded his team’s comeback that resulted in a 4-1 triumph in the five-match series.

Rohit says the team knew England will present a tough challenge but India stood up to it to emerge as the better of the two sides.

“A five Test match series is always tough, always hard, a lot of challenges through that one and a half to two months that we need to go through,” Rohit said on Team Ro. “It was a very different experience to play that five Test series and against an opposition like England, we knew it was never going to be easy. We have to be at our best and certainly towards the end, I could say that we are at our best to come out on top on four occasions. So very, very pleased with how we played that series.”

“As a captain, the series made me think about a lot of stuff as to what we need to do, how we can stop these guys, how we can put pressure on them. There were a lot of talks behind the scenes. Luckily, I have got a superb support staff around me who are there to help and guide me,” he added.

The defeat in Hyderabad was a timely wake-up call for India, a team that has been invincible in the past 17 years when playing at home.

“It was important to stay calm and just let it flow. It was important to send the message to the group that we don’t need to panic and there are still four more Test matches to go,” Rohit said of the comeback.
