T20 World Cup 2024: Rohit Sharma Surpasses 4000 Runs in T20Is, Second Batter to Surpass Milestone Across All Three Formats
Rohit also became just the second batter in history to score 4000+ runs across all three formats of the game, right after Virat Kohli.

Another day, another milestone for the Indian skipper Rohit Sharma, who surpassed 4000 T20I runs in his career with his knock against Ireland in the T20 World Cup 2024 on Wednesday.

Rohit set out to take to the Irishmen, who had set a meagre target of 97. Despite the departure of talisman batter Virat Kohli, the skipper stood in place and continued to lead the Indian attack, as he notched on the runs in a precautious yet timely manner.

With his 26th run of his innings today, the Indian skipper crossed the landmark of 4000 T20I runs for India, in his 144th outing for the Men in Blue in the shorter format.

He also became just the second Indian, after his opening partner Virat Kohli to cross the milestone for India in the shorter format.

He also became just the third batter in international cricket to surpass the milestone, after his Indian counterpart Kohli and Pakistan’s Babar Azam.

But, the biggest achievement of all lies in the fact that Rohit became just the second batter in history to score 4000+ runs across all three formats of the game, right after Virat Kohli.

The records do not stop there though, as the Indian skipper also became the third man to score more than 1000 runs in the T20 World Cup itself, only trailing the likes of Virat Kohli and Sri Lankan legend Mahela Jayawardene.

Rohit’s record in T20Is consists of 5 centuries, and 29 half-centuries, as the skipper attempts his side to yet another T20 World Cup trophy, years after their first triumph in 2007.

The Indian pacers ran riot in their opening game against the Irish as they managed to reduce their opponents to just 96 runs to kick off their World Cup campaign in style.

Arshdeep Singh started off the proceedings to help India with two wickets in the powerplay. Hardik Pandya took charge after the first six overs as he picked up three wickets to return to form. Jasprit Bumrah was at his absolute best as he managed to take two wickets through the final stages while Axar Patel took a blinder of a catch for his lone wicket.
