USA will remember their win for years to come. The 2024 T20 World Cup co-hosts have continued their impressive run in the marquee event and have produced a stunning result by beating former champions Pakistan in a thrilling clash that was decided by Super Over on Thursday.
In what was a first ever meeting between the two teams at the international stage, USA scripted history in Dallas. Batting first, Pakistan struggled their way to 159/7 at the Grand Prairie Stadium thanks to captain Babar Azam (44 off 43) and Shadab Khan (40 off 25).

In reply, USA finished with 159/3, resulting in a tie and the contest went into the Super Over.
USA posted 18/1 with Mohammad Amir bowling a wayward over that included a boundary off the very first ball and seven extra runs via wides. Left-arm pacer Saurabh Netravalkar then held his nerves and despite conceding a couple of boundaries, managed to limit Pakistan batters to 13/1 for a five-run win.
A few fans who were watching the proceedings in New York on a giant screen celebrated the historic result with a clip going viral on social media.
A fan could be seen running around with the USA national flag with chants of ‘USA, USA’ ringing around.

USA captain Monak Patel scored a half-century and was chosen as player-of-the-match. This is USA’s second win of the competition having earlier beaten Canada in a high-scoring affair.
With four points, they are currently at the top of the Group A and will next face another former champions India.
This is the second time that a contest involving Pakistan at a T20 World Cup has ended in a tie but the team has ended up losing on both the occasions.
Pakistan captain Babar Azam blamed their performance in the Powerplay overs for the defeat. “First 6 overs while batting we didn’t capitalise. Back to back wickets always put you on the back foot, as a batter you need to step up and build partnerships. We were not up to the mark in the first 6 overs with the ball,” he said.
