CSK have made a promising start to their title defense under their new captain Ruturaj Gaikwad. In their campaign opener against Royal Challengers Bangalore, the Yellow Brigade kept their opponents to 173 runs, with Mustafizur Rahman excelling with the ball. The Bangladeshi pacer fetched a four-wicket haul while giving away just 29 runs during his four-over spell.
During the chase, Rachin Ravindra gave CSK a blistering start, scoring 37 off 15 balls. Among others, Shivam Dube, Ajinkya Rahane and Ravindra Jadeja also made some valuable contributions in a comfortable chase.
In the next game against Gujarat Titans, the CSK batting unit appeared in a more devastating form. Gaikwad and Ravindra started off well at Chepauk and built the foundation with a 62-run partnership. Dube demonstrated his big-hitting prowess and slammed 51 off 23 deliveries, helping CSK post 206 runs on the board.
In response, GT surrendered early in front of the pacer trio of Mustafizur, Deshpande and Chahar, who picked two wickets each. In the end, the visitors finished at 143/8.
