The ongoing season of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) continues to garner attention as the spotlight is currently over Quetta Gladiators mystery spinner Usman Tariq. He was the most economic bowler in the recent fixture against Shan Masood’s Karachi Kings, returning 2 for 16 in 4 overs. But what became a massive point of discussion was his action which has now left the netizens divided in opinion.

Speaking of Tariq’s bowling action, the spinner pauses before releasing the ball. It gets difficult for the batter to read the delivery once it comes off his hands after the pause. The same thing was on display on Thursday at the National Stadium in Karachi. The likes of Tim Seifert and James Vince fell prey to Tariq in the same over of the innings, that too, in a similar fashion. While fans mull over the action if it’s legal, the dismissal had left the Gladiators mentor Sir Vivian Richards in disbelief.

Misbah-ul-Haq reacts to Tariq’s action

Former Pakistan captain Misbah-ul-Haq has explained the logic behind Tariq’s action. Speaking on A Sports Pavilion, the former said accuracy makes Tariq a difficult bowler to play, especially for the right handers.

“He (Tariq) has a carrom ball and on top of that, he is accurate. The spin is so subtle that it is just enough to beat the bat. For the right-handers, he is difficult to face,” Misbah said on A Sports.

“If you play him like an off-spinner where the ball comes back in which we have tried and seen but all the batters make the same mistake when we think he is delivering the carrom ball. We try to play him in-line we plant our foot to play but him that subtle turn will get to you LBW or bowled. When you are facing your first or second ball as a batter in your innings even if you pick it you will make a mistake some way or the other,” he further explained.
