India’s wicketkeeper-batter, Ishan Kishan has been in the spotlight following his exclusion from the Board of Control for Cricket in India’s (BCCI) annual central contract list. Despite the setback, the former Indian cricketer and now pundit, Aakash Chopra sees the 25-year-old looking to prove himself in the upcoming edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL).
Speaking on his YouTube channel, Chopra thinks Kishan will be more focused and eager to deliver on a massive scale for the Mumbai Indians for the upcoming IPL 2024 season. “Ishan Kishan will be hungry, as he has not got a central contract. This is the only thing he is playing. What else is he playing?” asked Chopra.
The focus for the Indian team will now shift towards the upcoming IPL and the T20 World Cup coming up after as well which is hosted by the West Indies and the United States of America.

Ishan Kishan along with Shreyas Iyer were the two players that were included in the BCCI’s annual retainership for the 2023-24 season. “Please note that Shreyas Iyer and Ishan Kishan were not considered for the annual contracts in this round of recommendations,” read the BCCI’s release.
The 25-year-old was part of India’s squad for the South Africa tour but chose to opt out midway through asking for a break citing personal reasons.
Chopra sees the IPL as the pathway for the batter to make his way back into the side and thinks that the conditions at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai will be ideal for him to deliver with the bat.

“Either he has himself opted not to play, or he won’t be selected now. So this is his chance. If you make the IPL your own, you have chances of going forward. Then there is, of course, Wankhede’s flat pitch. The ball will come nicely onto the bat and go far,” said Chopra.
The Mumbai Indians franchise has invested big amounts of money for the services of the wicketkeeper-batter by bidding 15.25 crores INR in the 2022 auctions as well. Following this he has been fairly consistent with the bat scoring above 400 runs in the previous two seasons.
He will look to deliver in the IPL to cement his spot in India’s squad for the upcoming World Cup as the side will look to clinch their second title to end their long-running ICC title drought.
