IPL 2024 is right around the corner and the excitement around the highly-anticipated tournament ebbs with each passing day.
Ahead of the tournament opener, Mumbai Indians head coach Mark Boucher spoke about his side’s preparations and the impact the transfer of Hardik Pandya back to the Maharashtra-based side will have on the team.
Boucher, who was present at the presser alongside Pandya expressed that he was happy with the side’s preparation ahead of the season.
“We are in a good space at the moment. We have a big squad,” the former South African international said.
The former Protea keeper expressed that he looks forward to a couple of players standing up and making a shout for a slot in the playing XI.
“We’ll be playing our first warm-up game today. I’m looking forward to a couple of players putting their hands up for selection,” Boucher added.
The 47-year-old spoke about the new additions to the side and opined that MI look to be a well-rounded side with big names across departments.
“We have got new international players. They are very energetic, which is always good,” the former wicketkeeper explained.
Pandya, who played for MI between 2015 and 2021, returns to the unit following two seasons at Gujarat Titans and will be eager to perform as well as he possibly can on his homecoming.
He also added that his role is to help skipper Pandya by getting behind his vision and pull everyone in the right direction.
“I’ll be trying to help him out as much as I can and get everyone going in the right direction. I’m going to support the captain as much as possible,” the 47-year-old said.
Mumbai Indians are slated to get their 2024 IPL campaign underway with a game against Gujarat Titans on the 24th of March, as Pandya returns to Ahmedabad after a couple of seasons with GT, one of which witnessed the 30-year-old leading the team to a title.
