Star India cricketer Jasprit Bumrah lost his father when he was a kid and says he's realised what it means after becoming dad himself.

In an emotional note on Instagram, Bumrah shared a picture of his late father, revealing his absence is something which the family has always.

Bumrah became father to a baby boy last September and the experience, the India pacer says, has made him realise what he’s missed in life.

“Your void was always felt in our lives and since I have become a father myself I realised what a father’s emotion is and what I had missed in my life. As we remember you with happy memories I wish you were with us dad,” Bumrah wrote.

In an interview to his IPL franchise Mumbai Indians, Bumrah recalled the financial difficulties the family had to bear with after his father’s death.

“”…we couldn’t afford anything. I had one pair of shoes. I used to have one pair of T-shirt. I used to wash them every day and use it again and again,” Bumrah said.

“So, as a child you know you hear stories that sometimes these things happen that some people come and watch you and you get picked up like this. But it actually happened,” he added.

Bumrah first hogged the limelight when he made his IPL debut for MI in 2013 with his unorthodox bowling action catching the attention. He showed remarkable improvement and quickly became one of the world’s leading fast bowlers.

Bumrah made a comeback to competitive cricket last year in August after a long injury layoff.

He underwent surgery for a back issue and eventually made a successful comeback playing vital role in India’s triumph at the Asia Cup and an unbeaten run to the 2023 ODI World Cup final.

Bumrah took a five-wicket haul the Cape Town Test earlier this month to help India draw a two-match Test series in South Africa. He will be back in action with the England Test series starting later this month,
