NCERT to Launch Remaining New Textbooks For Classes 3 And 6 Soon, Review Done by Dharmendra Pradhan
Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan did a “detailed review” of the progress of new textbooks development process with senior officials of the school education department and CBSE chairperson.

National Council for Educational Research and Training (NCERT) will introduce the remaining eight newly-developed textbooks for classes 3 and 6 soon, the Union Ministry of Education (MoE) said on Thursday.

According to the ministry, Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan did a “detailed review” of the progress of new textbooks development process with senior officials of the school education department and Central Board for Secondary Education (CBSE) chairperson on Thursday, July 4.

The NCERT is tasked with developing new books for all classes from 1 to 12 with the National Curriculum Framework for School Education (NCF-SE) in line with the new National Education Policy (NEP), 2020.

The council had earlier this year announced that in the current academic sessions (2024-25), new books will only be released for classes 3 and 6 while revised books for all other classes will be released over the next two academic sessions. It has already released books for classes 1 and 2.

“Textbook development work is in the final phase and nine textbooks for classes 3 and 6 are already available. The remaining eight will be available very soon,” the ministry posted on its official X (previously Twitter) handle.

Pradhan also reviewed the capacity building undertaken for the teachers of classes 3 and 6 who will use these new textbooks.

The Council is also in the process of introducing and training teachers in new pedagogical tools through bridge courses. This April, the NCERT had launched a bridge course for middle school teachers to prepare them for teaching the newly-developed curriculum for the new session.

The NCF-SE is developed in line with the new NEP. The NCF was released by the ministry in August 2023. It provides various concepts for different levels of learning and concepts such as —- art and play-based learning for the foundational stage; competency-based learning for higher classes; introduction of vocational skills from class 6; no regimented streaming of commerce, science, and humanities; and board examinations for classes 10 and 13 twice a year.
