This Haryana Villager Receives Rs 2 Crore Scholarship From UK's University Of York
Prateek Sangwan has now been admitted to PhD studies at the University of York in England.

After Prateek Sangwan, a resident of the village of Pichopa Khurd in Charkhi Dadri, Haryana saw the water crisis caused by the continuously falling water level. He then decided to solve the crisis with the help of modern technology. Thanks to his eight years of hard work, Prateek Sangwan has now received the opportunity to do his doctorate at the famous University of York in England.

Prateek Sangwan received a scholarship of Rs 2 crore from the Natural Environment Research Council of the British government. Now, he will research abroad about the water crisis in northern India, including Haryana.

Family members and villagers celebrated his son’s performance and wished him a bright future. Prateek Sangwan completed his school education at the Sainik School in Kunjpura. He received a master’s degree in water policy and management from the Tata Institute of Social Sciences in Mumbai. Prateek has now been admitted to PhD studies at the University of York. As many as 300 candidates from all over the world had applied for this.

Prateek said that the main goal of his research will be to find a solution to the worsening water crisis in Haryana and northern India. This research will find ways to complete irrigation management for farmers by adapting the most advanced technologies in the world to local conditions. Prateek Kumar is currently working with an organisation called Well Labs, which is dedicated to research in the field of natural resources management and agricultural livelihoods. Previously, Prateek Kumar worked with the Department of Irrigation and Water Resources in Haryana, where he was actively involved in the implementation of water conservation programmes.

From the beginning, his mother has played an important role in enabling Prateek to have a better education. Prateek’s father Surendra Singh is a state teacher and he expressed his pride and said it was like a dream come true to see his son take this educational trip from the village to a foreign country. Mother Rajbala also expressed her joy at her son’s performance and said that Prateek had made his name famous all over the world.
