Earlier, Sainik Schools were meant only for boys, but now, they accept the enrolment of female students too.

It is the dream of many parents to offer the best education to their children. While there is no dearth of private schools in the country, there are a few educational institutions like the Sainik Schools which are a joint venture between the Central and State Governments and are run by the Sainik School Society. It is funded by the Ministry of Defence, which is also responsible for serving officers at the school. Meanwhile, the state government offers land, infrastructure and employees.

Earlier, Sainik Schools were meant only for boys, but now, it accepts the enrolment of female students too. Currently, there are 33 Sainik Schools in India, but recently, 38 new schools have been sanctioned in 2024. Who Can Get Admission to This School?

Sainik Schools are known for providing quality education to the children of Indian Armed Forces personnel. The majority of the seats are reserved for those from army backgrounds. But, civilian children too can enrol here. For this, they need to crack the entrance examination. If the student scores as per the admission criteria, then they will get the opportunity to get enrolled here.

How is the Sainik School Entrance Exam conducted?

The first step is filling out the application form for the All India Sainik School Entrance Examination (AISSEE). For this, application fees need to be paid too. Students belonging to General, Other Backward Classes (OBCs) and other categories have to pay Rs 550 for the Sainik School application form fee. Students belonging to Scheduled Caste (SC) and Scheduled Tribe (ST) categories have to pay Rs 400. AlSSEE is conducted every year in January.
