London: England coach Fabio Capello has announced that he will leave his job as national team manager after Euro 2012.
After the Three Lions' dismal display in this summer's World Cup, many pundits called for Capello to resign, but the Italian has gone some way to winning his critics back by guiding his team to impressive back to back qualifying victories over Bulgaria and Switzerland.
With six points and seven goals from those two games, England are in pole position to qualify, and another win against Montenegro next month would only strengthen their position.
However, it seems that if England can continue their good form and qualify for Euro 2012, it will be Capello's last actions as coach, with the Three Lions or anyone.
When questioned about whether the tournament would be his last as manager, Capello responded in a typically upfront manner.
"Absolutely. Yes," he told reporters.
"We have to qualify first of course but after that I will be too old.
"I want to enjoy my life as a pensioner."
Capello became England manager in 2008 and led the Three Lions through a near impeccable qualifying campaign for the 2010 World Cup, only to flop spectacularly, going out 4-1 to Germany in the last 16.
