The 63-year-old Houllier is currently working for the French Football Federation as its technical director.
Paris: Gerard Houllier has reportedly agreed a two-year contract to become manager of Aston Villa.
L'Equipe newspaper reported on Tuesday on its website that the former Liverpool manager will replace Martin O'Neill after spending the weekend in England to work out a deal.
The 63-year-old Houllier, who is currently working for the French Football Federation as its technical director, didn't answer a message left on his mobile phone.
Houllier left Liverpool in 2004 after a six-year spell in charge and then coached Lyon from 2005-07. He is reportedly set to meet French federation president Fernand Duchaussoy on Wednesday to discuss taking over at Villa.
Reserve-team coach Kevin MacDonald has been taking temporary charge of Villa.
