I want to stay at City for many years: Silva

Manchester: David Silva insists he is happy at Manchester City and is willing to stay at the club "for many years".

Strong performances from the 25-year-old could potentially attract interest from Europe's elite ahead of the January transfer window but the Spaniard, who had offers from both Real Madrid and Barcelona before signing for City, claims he is focused only on winning trophies for Roberto Mancini's side.

"Madrid and Barcelona are great teams, but I'm happy here and I would like to stay here for many years. My family are the same as me, we're happy. The people treat me really well and I'm very relaxed. I live in a very peaceful area, a small town," Silva told Cadena SER.

"The important thing is the team. We are playing well and we are leaders. At the end of the season we will be in the fight and maybe we'll win the title.

"It's like any other club. They are putting together a great team and we hope to be one of the biggest sides in Europe.

"They (City) were the team who pushed hardest for me. I didn't have to think about it because they were the only team to push so hard to sign me and I'm happy."

The midfielder also vaguely refuted claims suggesting he was rejected by Jose Mourinho last summer.

He said: "There are so many players. Some have more opportunities than others. I always had the chance to come here with a lot of confidence (placed in me) and that didn't depend on me at all."

Silva revealed he has been surprised by his own swift adaptation to the Premier League following his arrival after Spain's World Cup victory last summer, and highlights the contrast in culture between La Liga and English football.

"I thought it was going to be harder but they have made it easy for me and I'm happy," he continued.

"The atmosphere has surprised me, the competition and the relaxed atmosphere from day to day is fundamental. The public don't come in to the training sessions and at the games they are very respectful."

City enter their League Cup match against Wolves following a resounding 6-1 victory over title rivals Manchester United on Sunday at Old Trafford. Silva is adamant his team-mates are focused on the competition and has backed David de Gea to shine for Sir Alex Ferguson's side.

"I am going to enjoy it a little but in the knowledge that we have a game on Wednesday," he said.

"On the pitch it's each man for himself but I wish (De Gea) all the best because he is a great goalkeeper and I am sure he will do really well (at United)."

Silva also claimed his disagreement over Spain's squad selection with manager Vicente del Bosque is now at an end after previously stating the 60-year-old favours players from Barcelona and Real Madrid.

"I had the opportunity to play those two games (against the Czech Republic and Scotland), and the team won. I played as a forward, things went well and I was comfortable, also because my team-mates made things easy for me," he added.
