Sir Jim Ratcliffe to Reassess Casemiro's Contract Due to High Wage: Report
Casemiro still has more than two years left on his current contract with Manchester United and currently earns £350,000 per week.

Sir Jim Ratcliffe has reportedly started to chalk out the plans to reduce the overall wage bills of Manchester United. The Ineos chief acquired 25 percent of the club’s share last year. The deal saw the Glazer family hand over the biggest portion of their ownership since gaining the majority of the control almost 20 years back. While they still keep enough shares, it was reported that Ratcliffe will take charge of Manchester United’s football operations. Though the deal has yet to be sanctioned by the Premier League authority, Ratcliffe has already identified the footballer, whose wage structure must be negotiated to maintain financial stability.

According to a report by the Sun, Ratcliffe is eager to trim the weekly salary of Casemiro, who still has more than two years left on his current contract with Manchester United. The Brazilian midfielder joined the Red Devils from Real Madrid in the summer of 2022.

To secure his signing, Manchester United shelled out an initial £60 million, making him the sixth most-expensive player in the club’s history. As per the contract, Casemiro currently earns £350,000 per week. As Ratcliffe and his Ineos team eyes to save some cash, they might re-evaluate the deal with Casemiro.

Since shifting his base to Manchester, Cameiro has represented the Red Devils in 63 games across all competitions. The veteran midfielder has scored 11 goals while providing 7 assists. Casemiro has recently returned to training after remaining sidelined for over one month due to a hamstring injury.

Apart from Casemiro, Manchester United may also reassess the future of some other players upon the arrival of Ratcliffe. Anthony Martial is set to be released this summer when his current contract expires. The Old Trafford hierarchy will look to make the most out of his departure as it is unlikely that the club will leave the forward as a free agent.

Manchester United have already settled a few deals during this January transfer window. They have loaned out Donny van de Beek joining Bundesliga side Eintracht Frankfurt. Sergio Reguilon has also been returned to Tottenham Hotspur following the end of his temporary contract. Among others, Jadon Sancho is set to rejoin his former club Borussia Dortmund on a season-long loan.
