The Indian men’s hockey team claimed the bronze medal at the Pris Olympcs 2024 with a 2-1 win over Spain in the third-place match on Thursday to claim their second straight podium finish in as many editions of the Summer Games.
The jubilant Indian team revelled in their landmark accomplishment as the players and staff were pictured moving to joyous tunes in the dressing room after the come-from-behind win against the Spaniards.

Skipper Harmanpreet Singh’s brace on the day rallied India back to clinch the coveted medal after having conceded an early goal in the bronze medal playoff fixture. It was the first time in over five decades that the Indian team managed to pick up medals at back-to-back Olympic games.
It was a memorable day for Indian goalkeeper PR Sreejesh in particular, who called time on his international playing career.
The Indian unit started off their Parisian campaign with a 3-2 triumph over the New Zealand side to begin on a positive note. The men in blue were held to a 1-1 stalemate by Argentina in their second group fixture, before bouncing back with a 2-0 win over Ireland.
Belgium handed India their only group-stage defeat as the European unit marched to a 2-1 win over Harmanpreet and Co.
But, a 3-2 win over Australia carried the men in blue into the quarterfinals of the event, in which the Indian unit came up big as they posted a 4-2 win over Great Britain on penalties after the game ended 1-1, despite India going down to 10-men.
As India went in search of bettering the colour of their medal from the previous edition of the Olympics, they were halted by the resilient Germany side in the semifinal. India took an early lead in the final-four game, but the Germans hit back to claim a 3-2 win and move into the final of the campaign, while condemning India to a third-place playoff.
The men in blue made the most of the third-place game as they picked up the win over the Spanish side to give the national contingent their fourth medal of the 2024 edition of the Summer Games.
