Following Daniel Craig's exit from the franchise, actor Aaron Taylor-Johnson is likely to play the next James Bond.

Ever since Hollywood actor Daniel Craig announced his departure from the James Bond franchise, a lot of speculations have been made regarding who will be the next to take over “tuxedo and the martini glass” to step in the shoes of Ian Fleming’s iconic character. After a long wait and a delay due to the Hollywood strikes last year, it seems like things are finally falling into place as an actor’s name has been reportedly zeroed in to play the next James Bond.

According to a report by The Sun, Hollywood actor Aaron Taylor-Johnson, known for his roles in films like Kick-Ass, Tenet, Nocturnal Animals, and Avengers: Age of Ultron, has been offered to play the iconic role of James Bond.

Sources close to Eon Production, the house behind the spy thriller series, have reported that the actor is likely to accept the role and will sign the contract in a week. The film is expected to go on floors this year, while a script is being worked on. “Bond is Aaron’s job, should he wish to accept it. The formal offer is on the table and they are waiting to hear back. As far as Eon is concerned, Aaron is going to sign his contract in the coming days and they can start preparing for the big announcement,” the outlet reported citing a close source.

Notably, the 33-year-old was in the race for the top job alongside Hollywood biggies like Oscar-winning actor Cillian Murphy, Richard Madden, James Norton and others. Reports also suggest that Johnson earlier had a secretive audition in December 2022 following which he got into discussions with producer Barbara Broccoli in 2023.

Speculations about the James Bond franchise

Daniel Craig confirmed his exit from the spy thriller franchise in 2019, marking his final appearance as James Bond in the 2021 film No Time To Die.

Ever since rumours have been circulating that British actor Idris Elba might be the leading contender for the role; however, the actor denied it later.

Spanning over 60 years with 25 films released to date, the Bond franchise has seen six actors taking over the lead roles. The first Bond film had actor Sean Connery as the first-ever James Bond followed by actors like George Lazenby, Timothy Dalton, Pierce Brosnan and Craig.
