Check the remote's batteries.
Make sure the batteries are still working. It's recommended to use new batteries, so you'll know they have a fresh charge. Check that the batteries are oriented properly in the compartment.
Restart the TV.
Turn the TV off completely and turn it on again. Use the physical button to turn off your TV, and then unplug it from the outlet. Wait at least 30 seconds, and then plug it back in again.
Do an IR signal test.
Check the IR emitter. On a Roku, this light is purple and can be seen in a dark room. You can also use your smartphone's camera or a digital camera to check Point the remote at your camera and hold the Power button. On your camera, check for a colored light coming from the remote. If you don't see a light, the remote is most likely defective.
Clear any obstacles.
Make sure nothing is blocking the TV's IR sensor. This is the Infra-Red light sensor at the center bottom of your TV. If you have something blocking it, such as the router or a console, move it elsewhere.
Point the remote directly at the sensor.
Hold the remote in front of the sensor. The IR signal may go undetected if you're too far. If the remote only works up close, you may need to get a replacement with a stronger signal.
Re-pair your remote.
Pair you remote again. If you have an enhanced remote, you can find a pairing button in the battery compartment. Remove the battery compartment. Find the button on the bottom-right of the battery compartment. Press and hold the button for 3 seconds. The LED on the left will start flashing. Restart your TV. Wait for the TV to recognize the remote.
Purchase a replacement remote.
Buy a replacement. If all else fails, you'll need to purchase a new remote. You can buy a remote directly from the Roku website. You can also contact Roku on their website.
