Hanging Your Tools
Use an over-the-door shoe organizer to hold tools. Your bathroom may not have a closet, counter, or cupboard, but you can use vertical space to your advantage. This will organize heat-styling tools (hair dryer, curling wand, flat iron) as well as smaller items. Choose an organizer with clear plastic pouches so you can see where everything is. Place one product or tool in each pouch, separating moisturizing oils, mousses, gels, and small cans of hairspray from combs and styling tools. Wait until heat-styling tools are cool before replacing them in plastic pouches.
Suspend tools on a towel bar. Purchase hooks for pots and pans and hang your heat-styling tools on the towel bar for easy access. Use twist ties, velcro loops, or bendable zip ties to keep cords bound and untangled. Do not wrap cords around the tools.
Hang tools on the wall or inside cupboard doors with command hooks. Many flat irons and hair dryers come with a small loop on the handle. Hanging heat-styling tools out of sight not only makes your bathroom look cleaner but keeps them out of the way. Use a second command hook for each tool to coil the cords beside them.
Maximizing Storage Space
Repurpose small jars for small items. Keep track of bobby pins, small clips, and hair bands in clear jars or kitchen containers. You can always decorate plain jars or color-code them by tying a ribbon around the rim or spray painting the outside.
Use a PVC pipe to hold your hair tools. PVC piping is available at many home improvement stores and is inexpensive, light, and full of potential. Purchase a connector piece with a large opening on two ends and one or two small offshoots. The large opening in the pipe is perfect for holding a hair dryer. The offshoots can hold a hairbrush or slimmer styling tools, such as a curling iron.
Store tools in a metal kitchen utensil holder. Not only are these designed to be on display, they often have holes in the sides, which allow heat-styling tools to cool down after use. Use the holder to store brushes and combs alongside styling tools.
Upcycle shoe boxes or tissue boxes for large and small items. Use repurposed shoe and tissue boxes to organize bottled products alongside the small jars and containers you have repurposed for small items and accessories. You can also purchase small jars at most craft stores. Use 2" thick PVC pipes to store slender hair styling tools, such as a curling wand. If you’re not up for DIY, purchase medium-sized plastic containers from any home improvement store and create your own label. Shoeboxes can also be color-coded, labeled, or decorated to match your bathroom decor.
