BHUBANESWAR: Eleven children of families displaced by Tata Steel’s 6-MT integrated steel project at Kalinganagar have been awarded the Tata Steel Parivar Scholarship 2011-2012 for pursuing professional education in technical institutions of the State. While five students have taken admission in B-Tech programme in engineering colleges, six have been admitted to engineering diploma courses. With the award of scholarship this year, the total number of recipients of the Tata Steel Parivar Scholarship Programme has gone up to 67. Introduced in 2007, the scholarship is aimed at facilitating technical and professional education of children belonging to the families displaced by Tata Steel’s Kalinganagar Steel Project. Students from displaced families, who secure admissions into recognised institutions for courses such as B-Tech, MBBS, MBA, Nursing, Pharmacy and Diploma in Engineering, are eligible for financial assistance covering full tuition fee and hostel charges under the programme. The Company has signed an MoU with Kalinga Institute of Social Sciences (KISS), Bhubaneswar, to facilitate studies for children of displaced tribal families of Kalinganagar. About 273 children from the rehabilitated families of Kalinganagar are studying in various residential schools in the State, including KISS.
