KOLLAM: A 14-year-old girl ended life at a hostel in East Kallada near here on Sunday night. Surabhi, a Class IXstudent of the Mount Carmel School, Mathilakam, near East Kallada, was found hanging by her hostelmates at around 7 pm.The hostel authorities rushed her to a private hospital at Mulavana where she was declared brought dead. The autopsy was conducted at the Medical College Hospital, Thiruvananthapuram, on Monday and the body was brought to her house in West Kallada by evening.The East Kallada Police registered a case based on a complaint by Reghu, the girl’s father. The girl, hailing from a Scheduled Caste family, was staying in a hostel near the convent, which runs the school, as part of the district panchayat scheme for backward classes.Several backward class organisations demanded a probe into the management’s role.
