A 19-year-old Army recruit allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself at Bairagarh here, police said on Monday. The deceased, identified as Viplab hailing from West Bengal who had been recently recruited in armed services, ended his life at Bairagarh's 3-EME centre here on Sunday.

A letter written in Bengali was found near the body in which a girl had mentioned that she would marry as per the wishes of her family members. According to police, rejection by the girl may have prompted Viplab to take the extreme step. A case has been registered at the Bairagarh police station in this regard and further investigation was on, they added.
