HYDERABAD: Two children were kidnapped within a gap of 24 hours, keeping the police on their toes, but both the children have been rescued and handed over to their respective parents by the police by Friday evening. The first kidnap took place at Malakpet where a 2yearold boy, B Anirudh, was abducted around 9.45 am on Thursday and in the second a 3yearold girl, Navya, was abducted by a woman at Asifnagar around 8.30 am on Friday. Briefing reporters, city police commissioner AK Khan said the abducted boy was rescued at Kottur village in Medak district while he was being swapped for a girl child.
The main accused are residents of Nacharam and Habsiguda areas. One of the accused, M Latha, is married to Anil Kumar and the couple are residents of Habsiguda. "As Latha has remained childless even after four years of marriage, her husband has been threatening to divorce her. Latha approached another couple, Seshaiah and Anitha, of Kottur in Medak district to give their 2monthold daughter for adoption as the couple had three daughters. They agreed to Latha's request on the condition that she gave them a male child in exchange," Khan said.Latha approached her brother, B Raju, who, along with his friends T Venkat and D Prem Chand, were searching for a boy to kidnap. They came across Anirudh who was playing near his house at Shalivahana Nagar in Malakpet and kidnapped him. "They took the boy to Kottur and purchased a coconut, flowers and other puja material to be offered to the village goddess before exchanging the boy with the girl child," Khan said adding that locals grew suspicious about the strangers' movements and alerted the Mulugu police who nabbed the accused.
