CHENNAI: Two persons were arrested in connection with the murder of a lorry driver at R K Nagar on Sunday night. The body of Venkatesh, a tanker lorry driver, with knife wounds was found near his house at Thamizhan Nagar near Tondiarpet.On information, a police team arrived on the scene, recovered the body and sent it for autopsy. Probe showed that the victim had illicit relations with his neighbour Govindan’s wife Shanthi. The relationship allegedly developed when Venkatesh’s wife Amala fell ill more than a year ago. The couple had three children.On coming to know about her husband’s affair, Amala warned him, sources said. Meanwhile, Shanthi’s son Mohanasundaram also came to know of the affair. After the murder, police picked him up for questioning and the youth reportedly confessed to having hacked the lorry driver to death with the help of his friend Sounder in revenge. As per the plan, Sounder went to Venkatesh’s house on Sunday evening and told him that another lorry driver lay injured at a temple nearby. Venkatesh rushed to the spot and Mohanasundaram, who lay in wait, attacked him with a knife, killing him on the spot. R K Nagar police arrested Mohanasundaram and Sounder, who were later remanded in judicial custody.Dropout Trainee Cop Among Chain SnatchersA 31-year-old woman, who dropped out of police training in 2003, was among five chain snatchers and pickpockets held on Monday. Mohan (58) of Royapettah was on MTC bus 56C, from Manali to Broadway, on Monday, when three men stole his wallet containing `26,000 in Muthialpet. The trio was caught by traffic constable Iyyappan. The men were identified as Selvakumar (32) of Thiruvottiyur, Thangaraj (55) of Ennore and Viswananthan (37) of New Washermenpet. Similarly, Hemanath (20), of Royapettah, was on 17M, from Broadway to Vadapalani, when a man snatched his laptop. He was caught by Teynampet sub-inspector and constable and was identified as Rajamani (39) of Korukkupet.In another incident, 72-year-old M Krishnamma, of Kunrathur, was walking near in Sadanandapuram, when a woman pushed her down and snatched her gold chain. As the chain snatcher took to her heels, the woman raised an alarm and patrolman Prem of Peerkangaranai police station chased and caught the thief. She was identified as K Hemalatha (31) ofNagercoil. A probe showed that Hemalatha had dropped out of police training midway in 2003.Man Beaten to Death in Dispute over TamarindAn argument between siblings turned deadly when a man was beaten to death in Periyapalayam on Sunday. The people responsible for the attack are absconding. Sivaji (55) and Padmachari (57) of Periyapalayam usually shared tamarind they plucked from trees in Naavalkuppam. The duo used to sell them. On Sunday, Padmachari plucked tamarind but did not share it with his brother. When Sivaji asked for a share Padmachari shouted at him. Angered, Sivaji’s sons Murthy and Dinakaran allegedly beat up Padmachari. Padmachari then went to Sivaji’s house with his wife Kasturi, son Balaji, daughter Thangam and son-in-law Veerasamy and beat Sivaji till he fell unconscious. Sivaji, died on the way to the hospital. Padmachari and his family are absconding.
