Vehicle carrying farm workers falls into river. Nine women and 10 children among dead, say district officials.
Bhopal: A truck carrying farm labourers plunged into a river in Madhya Pradesh on Wednesday, killing at least 29 people, most of them women and children, officials said.
District officials said at least 40 people were injured in the accident, which occurred in Piparia, Hoshangabad district. "We have 29 dead so far," K K Singh, said a senior district official.
"Ten seriously injured people have been brought to Bhopal's Hamidia Government Hospital for urgent treatment."
Officials said the truck driver may have lost control while trying to avoid an oncoming vehicle. Among those killed were nine women and 10 children.
