CHENNAI: Three notorious history-sheeters were arrested in the Pallavaram police limits after they robbed a realtor who was on his morning walk on Tuesday.The arrested persons were identified as Palayam alias Palayathaan (51) of Tirusulum, Venketesan alias Jilla Venkatesan (41) and Sudalai (50) of Ilupai Thope Street in Tirusulum.The realtor, Yoganathan (46) of Pallavaram, lodged a complaint with the police alleging that a three-member gang waylaid him while he was walking along the Old Trunk Road and snatched away his money, mobile phone and wristwatch. Based on the complaint filed by Yoganathan, a special team nabbed the three accused.According to the police, the trio were notorious criminals in the area, targeting lone walkers on the roads or near the railway track at Tirusulum.The police had been receiving several complaints about them. While Palayam was involved in more than 12 cases of robbery and burglary, apart from a murder case, Venketesan is claimed to be the most notorious with more than 22 cases of attempt to murder and robbery against him.“We can’t even lodge him in Puzhal prison as he would incite caste problems among the prisoners. We usually put him in Vellore prison,” said a police official. Sudalai is also said to be involved in a murder case.
