MUDHUKULATHUR: Six persons were injured, two motorcycles damaged and a hotel was looted during a group clash at a temple festival near Mudhukulathur in Ramanathapuram district on Wednesday.The Aadi festival of Sri Muthumariamman temple at Theriruveli village was celebrated on Wednesday with all communities in the village participating. It was alleged that a youth had teased a young woman who was going in a procession carrying ‘mulaipari’. He was set upon by some persons.He had complained to his community leaders and stones had been pelted at a procession taken out by one community. They had retaliated and six persons from both communities sustained injuries. A hotel belonging to a DMK functionary was ransacked and two motorcycles damaged in the clash.On information, a police team led by Mudhukulathur DSP G Madhavan rushed to the village and brought the situation under control. Ramanathapuram Range DIG Sandeep Mittal and Superintendent of Police Kaliraj Maheskumar visited the spot and conducted inquiries. Strong police pickets have been posted in the village.
