New Delhi: On the first anniversary of the July 11 Mumbai train blasts, the Maharashtra police is getting ready to probe how a CD containing the confessions of one of the accused was leaked to the media.
The CD was leaked to a private TV news channel allegedly by a member of the Special Investigations Team and was aired on Tuesday, on the eve of the blasts anniversary.
In the CD, Mohammad Ali can be seen admitting to blast conspiracy.
"Faisal (the facilitator of the blasts) told me he could do anything. He said he still had very good contacts and mentioned the name of Azam Jimma (Azam Cheema, the Let commander) who was a commander in Pakistan. He said Jimma (Cheema) was very well connected and could get anything done,” the CD shows Ali as saying.
The state home minister RR Patil has said the CD is not part of the investigations and that it hadn't been submitted to the MCOCA court.
He said that a commission of inquiry would be constituted to probe into the leak.
Maharashtra ATS chief KP Raghuvanshi met the Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh on Wednesday morning and reportedly gave the names of 10 officers who could be involved in recording the CDs.
The state's DGP P S Pasricha has reportedly said all the officers responsible will face serious departmental enquiry.
This new probe comes even as police remain clueless about the masterminds of the blasts.
All accused in the case have retracted their statements and have alleged torture by the ATS. Interestingly, the ATS has not produced these CDs as part of evidence in the case.
