9 lakh houses in 5 years: Jayalalithaa

CHENNAI: Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa on Wednesday announced in the TN Assembly that about nine lakh concrete houses would be constructed in five years time.Replying to a query on concrete houses for slum dwellers raised by E V Velu, DMK’s Tiruvannamalai MLA, the CM said, “Though we have announced that three lakh concrete houses would be constructed for slum dwellers in over five years, it doesn’t mean that the State has only three lakh slum dwellings. We go by the availability of fund for executing projects. In all, there will be nine lakh concrete houses — five lakh under Indira Awaas Yojana, three lakh under Green Houses Scheme and one lakh for Thane-affected families in Cuddalore and Villupuram — constructed in five years time.”
