'93 blasts: 5 yrs RI for Memon sister
Tada court on Thursday sentenced convict Salim Sheikh, Zaib un Nissa and Mubina Bhiwandiwala among others.

New Delhi: A Tada court on Thursday, sentenced convict Salim Sheikh to two concurrent life sentences for his role in the 1993 serial blasts case.

Sheikh was also fined Rs 1,40,000. He was charged with conspiracy and training in Pakistan and being present at Tiger Memon's residence when the RDX was filled in vehicles that were used in the serial blasts on March 12, 1993.

His confession, however, revealed that he had not filled the explosives in the vehicles due to the fear of dirtying his hands with the black RDX, reported PTI.

He was also convicted for driving a Maruti van to the fishermen's colony in Mahim where hand grenades were lobbed by others from the van.

Tada Judge Pramod Kode, however, said he not been given death sentence because he had not hurled the grenades or planted the bombs.

On Thursday, convict number 119, Zaib un Nissa was sentenced to five years RI and fined Rs 25,000 .

She was convicted of storing weapons in her house brought by Abu Salem, including those given to Sanjay Dutt.

Convict number 96, Mubina Bhiwandiwala, who is also the muhboli sister of Tiger Memon, was also sentenced to five years RI and fined Rs 25,000 by the court.

She had been convicted for letting her flat be used by Tiger Memon to hold meetings regarding the conspiracy.
