Achuthanandan pulled up Kerala's police chief for removing a colleague from the state's anti-piracy cell.

Thiruvananthapuram: Chief Minister VS Achuthanandan on Friday pulled up Kerala's police chief for removing a colleague from the state's anti-piracy cell and ordered his immediate reinstatement.

Director General of Police Raman Srivastava got a dressing down from the chief minister for stripping Rishiraj Singh of his post as nodal officer of the anti-piracy cell on Thursday. Achuthanandan has directed that Singh, a senior inspector general of police, be reinstated.

Singh, along with Indian music industry officials, arrived at the Ryan Studio in Kochi to check pirated CDs. But they could not do their job as Srivastava told Singh over phone that he (latter) had been removed from his post.

The studio reportedly belongs to the wife of Tomin Thachankary, also an inspector general of police. Thachankary is said to be close to a Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) faction that is ranged against Achuthanandan.

Achuthanandan told reporters that Singh would be reinstated with immediate effect.

"This act of the police chief has dented the image of my government because Singh was doing a good job by booking violators of the law. I asked him 'Wasn't Singh doing a good job?' and he (Srivastava) had no answer to that," he said.

What's your reaction?
