New Delhi: Another attack on an Indian student has been reported in Australia on Friday.
The 24-year-old student from Gujarat was attacked by three men in Melbourne. Hardik Bipinbhai Patel, a commercial cookery student at the Melbourne University, was attacked as he was entering his car and knocked out cold.
Hardik's phone, car keys and wallet were taken by the men who assaulted him. He was taken to a hospital by a resident of the area and discharged on Saturday.
Hardik, who hails from Surat, said two people came in front of him while he was about to enter his car and punched him on his face. He suffered face injuries in the assault.
He claimed that the attackers "looked like drug addicts".
"I think it was a racial attack because they didn't ask me for any money or anything. I was walking towards my car when two guys walked towrads me and punched me on my face one after another and then one man hit me on my head from behind and I lost my balance and fell. When I was falling, I heard them shouting 'you bloody Indian go back'. It is not safe even during daytime because I was attacked during the day. I may have to come back (to India)," Hardik told CNN-IBN.
The attack comes even as Indian students in Melbourne and Sydney have held a series of rallies over violent attacks and after repeated calls for an inquiry into racial attacks against them.
