CHENNAI: The suburban police registered a case of land grabbing against former DMK B Ranganathan, his aide T V Venkatesan alias Gowrishanker and 50 others on Wednesday. Ranganathan and Venkatesan, who were arrested by the city police on similar charges, were booked under the Goondas Act on Monday.In a complaint lodged at the Avadi police station on Wednesday, G Anitha Rani Devanandam of PMP Nagar, K Bhooshan Hari of Padi, S Vijayakumar of Periyar Nagar and Saral of Chittoor claimed that they had purchased 2,500 sq ft of patta land each in New Colony at Morai village in Tiruvallur district.Roping in anti-social elements, Ranganathan and his associate grabbed the land, claiming it was his ancestral land, renamed the plots as Thirumalai Nagar Annex and created new layouts.The complainants further claimed that they were threatened with dire consequences and forced to sell their land. Based on the complaint, the Avadi Tank Factory Police registered a case against Ranganathan, Venkatesan and 50 others.
