CHENNAI: A police inspector was mowed down by a train, when he tried to cross the rail track at Avadi on Monday.Sources said Chakravarthi, a resident of Pillayar Kovil Street in Jeeva Nagar, was inspector at the Thirumullavoyal police station. On Monday morning, he was making his way home after finishing duty. On seeing the railway gate near Annanur railway station closed, the inspector made his way across the track, when a train from Tirupathi ran over him. In an incident at Royapuram, burglars broke into a fisheries official’s house and decamped with gold jewels weighing 15 sovereigns on Monday, while the residents were away for their work. A case has been registered.In another incident, unidentified men struck at an airport officer’s house in Chitlapakkam on Monday and decamped with at least 50 sovereign gold jewels.
