BANGALORE: Encouraging a venture that supports education for the children from economically weaker backgrounds, three Australian Universities have decided to send 100 volunteers to teach underprivileged children in India. As part of the 40K Foundation’s International Volunteering Programme, New South Wales University and two other universities have decided to send student volunteers to school projects in India.“We are happy to support such initiatives. Indians and Australians working together have the potential to change people’s lives,”said Barry O Farrell, Premier, New South Wales, Australia.The Premier was in the city to inaugurate a computer lab equipped with wifi facilities at The Banyan, a school in Anagalapura set up by the Lovedale Foundation for the children of The Premier accompanied by The Consulate General of Australia also interacted with the children at the school and read out ‘Possum Magic’, a short story. Deepika, a class 7 student, was happy that a new computer lab was set up in her school. Authorized by the Police Commissioner’s Child helpline, the Lovedale Foundation helps rehabilitate children from economically and socially backward backgrounds.
